Ingredients

Candied walnuts:

  • ½ cup water 
  • ¼ cup pure honey 
  • ½ cup walnut pieces

Honey sauce: 

  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp pure honey 
  • 1 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk 
  • 1 tsp lemon juice 

Fried shrimp: 

  • 1 lb jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined 
  • 1 tsp salt 
  • ¼ tsp black pepper 
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 2 cups oil for frying, vegetable oil or peanut oil

Directions

Walnuts in a pan.

Step 1

In a small pot over medium heat, bring water and honey to a boil. Add walnuts and simmer for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Pour the honey walnuts on a parchment-lined tray to cool down.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, honey, sweetened condensed milk, and lemon juice then set aside. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat (350 degrees).

Step 3

In another medium bowl, season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with cornstarch and toss to coat well. Fry the shrimp until golden, about 3 minutes. Remove the shrimp and drain on a plate lined with a paper towel.

Step 4

Toss fried shrimp with the honey sauce. Top with candied walnuts and garnish with green onions. You can serve this with rice, chow mein noodles, and/or steamed broccoli.

  1. Try using a Japanese-style mayonnaise for a savory, umami punch! 🇯🇵
  2. To enhance the flavor, lightly toast the walnuts before boiling them in the honey mixture. This adds a deeper nutty flavor and an extra crunch.
